Background
First 5 El Dorado has contracted with the Library over the last six years to provide early literacy services and programs to over 2,000 children and their caregivers at all six library branches, as well as outreach services to early childhood education and community sites.  First 5 funding allows the library to enhance and supplement its staff and resources to provide a wide variety of effective age-appropriate early literacy classes, known as Ready to Read @ the Library.

Reason for Recommendation
This agreement continues the Library/First 5 El Dorado Ready to Read @ the Library program.  The FY 2014-15 Recommended Budget anticipated $212,500 in First 5 El Dorado funding for the Library.  First 5 funding provides four 0.6 FTE permanent Early Childhood Literacy Specialists as well as a total of .95 FTE part-time employees.  Books and supplies are also provided by the grant funding.

Action(s) to be taken following Board approval
1) Clerk of the Board will obtain signature of Chair and return one (1) original to the Library for routing to First 5 El Dorado.
2) Library to implement activities outlined in the Scope of Work.
