Health and Human Services Agency and Sheriff's Office recommending the Board adopt a proclamation recognizing the dedicated volunteers of the You Are Not Alone Telephone Reassurance Program. (Est. Time 10 Min.)
Body
Fiscal Impact/Change to Net County Cost
There is no Net County Cost associated with this proclamation.
Background
The You Are Not Alone (YANA) Telephone Reassurance Program was established in 1999 through a coordinated effort between the Health and Human Services Agency and the Sheriff's Office to address concerns regarding disabled and senior community members living alone who faced isolation due to illness or disability. The YANA Program is staffed by community and Sheriff's Team of Active Retired (S.T.A.R.) Program volunteers who provide daily telephone check-in calls to seniors and disabled adults living in El Dorado County. Calls are made 7 days a week, 365 days per year, including on weekends, holidays, and during severe weather storms. These volunteers offer a caring and resourceful means to connect our most vulnerable community members to services and assist them in remaining independent and safe in their home.
The YANA Program provides a safety net service for the senior and disabled community. If calls go answered after three attempts, the participant's family or friends are notified, and if loved ones are not able to make contact law enforcement is requested to make a welfare check. Knowing that someone will be checking on them daily with a telephone call, allows those that fear living alone to feel more comfortable and confident remaining in their home.
Reason for Recommendation
The proclamation recognizes the volunteers of the YANA program for their continued dedication and commitment to ensuring the safety and well-being of our vulnerable community members.
