Body

DEPARTMENT RECOMMENDATION

The Clerk recommends approval of the donation of these units as key elements for audio/video support during off site Board meetings.

DISCUSSION / BACKGROUND

In previous meetings, the Board has indicated their interest in holding their regular meetings at various locations throughout the county.  Over the years, there has been little or no funding allocated for the purchase of equipment to enable professional quality audio and video outside the Board meeting room.   According to documentation provided by the El Dorado County Office of Education (EDCOE) these units were purchased in 2009 for approximately $7,000 each and are currently valued at $500 each.  Staff is informed both units are in working order, however the units do not carry any warranty and we believe they are no longer supported by the manufacturer.

It is important to note that these units do not constitute the full range of equipment necessary for off-site professional level audio/video capabilities, but they do represent the most expensive items and should suffice for temporary or sporadic use.  The department will continue to work with our video technician on the purchase of additional equipment as allocated funding permits.

ALTERNATIVES

The Board may choose not to accept the donation.
