DEPARTMENT RECOMMENDATION
Health and Human Services Agency (HHSA) recommends the Board of Supervisors accept this grant funding and authorize the subsequent purchase of a public address system with a microphone.

DISCUSSION / BACKGROUND
HHSA’s Community Services Senior Day Care Program is designed to meet the needs of adults who are otherwise homebound or isolated due to a stroke, Alzheimer’s disease, or other debilitating mental or physical conditions. The Senior Day Care Center provides its participants with enriching educational, therapeutic, and social experiences outside of the home, while providing caregivers with respite from the physical, mental, and emotional toll of being a caregiver.

Participants in the El Dorado Hills Senior Day Care program read poems, lead sing-alongs, and share life experiences with fellow attendees. The El Dorado Hills Senior Day Care program does not have a way to amplify the participants’ voices, and, therefore, some participants are not able to hear fellow participants’ verbal contributions. A public address system that includes a microphone and speaker will enable all Senior Day Care participants to reap the therapeutic benefits of camaraderie.

The Senior Day Care Program is in part funded by the General Fund. HHSA continues to seek alternative funding, such as this grant funding, to augment the program.
