Staff recommends the Board receive and file a presentation from the Tahoe Prosperity Center regarding a 2015 Economic and Community Indicators report for the Lake Tahoe Basin.
DISCUSSION / BACKGROUND
The Tahoe Prosperity Center has led an effort to compile and analyze relevant indicators of community prosperity, so that Tahoe Basin communities, academic institutions, non-profit organizations, and government jurisdictions can have critical knowledge and make informed decisions for the future. The attached report entitled, "Measuring for Prosperity: Community and Economic Indicators for the Lake Tahoe Basin," highlights current economic and quality of life indicators, much of which isn’t compiled elsewhere. For example, the Study shows that Lake Tahoe average household incomes are much lower than other comparable areas, and illustrates some of the major housing affordability challenges that exist for local residents. On the brighter side, local tax revenues are increasing in areas where redevelopment has occurred - an encouraging sign for future town-center friendly developments.
