Body

DEPARTMENT RECOMMENDATIONS

County Surveyor's Office recommending the Board adopt, Resolution Renaming A Portion of County Road No. 34, White Rock Road To Old White Rock Road.

DISCUSSION BACKGROUND

In support of the U.S. Highway 50 / Silva Valley Parkway Interchange Project, the County Community Development Agency, Transportation Division, has demonstrated the necessity of renaming the segment of White Rock Road from the Silva Valley Interchange easterly to the Hwy 50 Right-Of-Way. The most westerly segment of the road to be renamed was realigned as part of the Silva Valley Interchange Project. This realignment will result in a "T" intersection and the contiguous segment of the road to the west of the intersection has been renamed Clarksville Crossing (See Board action on March 8, 2016, Legistar File 16-0119). On February 23, 2016, the Board adopted, Resolution Of Intention To Change Name Of Road; and set a hearing on March 8, 2016 to consider the proposed name change of the segment of road to the east of the intersection to Clarksville Crossing. On March, 8, 2016, the Board continued this matter to March 22, 2016 without taking action. On  March 22, 2016, the Board did not approve the proposed name of Clarksville Crossing and directed the County Surveyor to begin the process of renaming this segment to Old White Rock Road. The Surveyor has publicly noticed the proposed name change in more than three (3) public places at least 10 days prior to the proposed hearing date, in accordance with Section 970.5 of the California Streets and Highways Code.

ALTERNATIVES

An alternative would be to not approve the renaming of this portion of the road to Old White Rock Road. By utilizing this alternative, the Transportation Division will be lacking direction on signage that needs to be installed in support of the Silva Valley Interchange Project.

OTHER DEPARTMENT / AGENCY INVOLVEMENT

The Community Development Agency, Transportation Division has requested this portion of White Rock Road be renamed and has approved of the proposed name, Old White Rock Road.
