Title: Public Health Department recommending the Board approve, in concept, an application to be submitted to Marshall Foundation for a Community Health Grant in an amount up to $4,000 over a one-year period to commence December 2006 to fund educational and health promotional activities for the Health Promotions' BodyWorks Program; and further recommending said Department be authorized to solicit letters of support form local and county agencies and other documentation as required and the Director of said Department be authorized to execute any resulting Agreement and documents relating to same. FUNDING: Marshall Foundation for Community Health Grant

Body
Background: The purpose of the Marshall Foundation for Community Health Grant is to fund educational and health promotional activities in Areas of Focus, such as Coronary Heart Disease or Cancer and to contribute needed healthcare resources to the community. The Health Promotions Division of the Public Health Department has selected Coronary Heart Disease as its Area of Focus for the Marshall Foundation for Community Health Grant. Health Promotions will partner with Marshall Medical Health Promotions and local middle schools to provide the BodyWorks program, an effort to prevent obesity; promote healthy eating habits and lifestyles; modify sedentary behaviors; provide training through Train the Trainers program; and involve parents, children, medical providers and local communities. It is expected that the BodyWorks program will be integrated into the aforementioned partners ongoing service delivery systems.


Reason for Recommendation: This Grant will help to further the Department's mission to promote healthy communities throughout El Dorado County.

Fiscal Impact/Change to Net County Cost: If the grant application is successful, El Dorado County will receive up to $4,000 in funding over a one-year period. There is no net County cost. The grant does not require any matchi...
