Title
Agricultural, Weights and Measures Department recommending the Board authorize the Agricultural Commissioner, on behalf of the Alpine/Upper Carson Weed Management Group, to apply for grant funding from the Carson Water Subconservancy District in the amount of $12,000 for Noxious Weed projects performed by El Dorado County staff in Alpine County through said Group.
RECOMMENDED ACTION: Approve.

FUNDING: Carson Water Subconservancy District Grant.

Body
Reason for Recommendation/Background: The Agriculture Department currently manages all Noxious and Exotic weed work in Alpine County through the Alpine Upper/Carson Weed Management Area. The Department recently became aware of funding available from the Carson Water Subconservancy for the Alpine Upper Carson Weed Management Area for the fiscal year 2006-2007. (The department previously came to the Board for fiscal year 2005-2006 reimbursement on August 15, 2006.) If awarded this grant would provide new funding for currently budgeted work on surveying for weed populations, education of the public and GPS population perimeter delimitation. The department continues to document all invasive weed infestations with description, location and acreage/percent cover, in order to produce updated comprehensive maps of the invasive weed populations within the Alpine/Upper Carson Weed management area for analysis and treatment.

Fiscal Impact/Change to Net County Cost:
If successful, this grant would provide approximately $12,000 in new funding to the Agriculture Department for currently budgeted activities and allow the Department to perform enhanced weed activities with the appropriations provided in the original budget. There would be no change to the Department’s net county cost.

Action to be taken following Board approval:
1) Department to prepare and submit application and supporting documentation to Carson Water Subconservancy District on behalf of Alpine Upper Carson Weed Management Area.
2) If success...
