FUNDING: California Department of Food and Agriculture Grant.

Body
Background:
The Agriculture Department currently manages all invasive weed work in Alpine and El Dorado counties. In California, the Department shares responsibility of the Lake Tahoe Basin area with Placer County. The Lake Tahoe Basin grant application will be submitted as a bi-county grant. CDFA is requesting proposals from Weed Management Areas (WMA’s) to implement and/or continue noxious weed control projects in California. Weed Management Groups consist of numerous public and private entities that are involved in intensive noxious weed population survey and eradication projects. The available funding is intended to facilitate the cooperative efforts for the prevention, early detection, and eradication of noxious weed populations.

The term of each grant would provide funding beginning in FY 2006-07 and extending into FY 2008/2009. Grant funded projects will be managed in conjunction with work already scheduled to be completed in those budget years. The Department will request funding for all three years, with actual start date of contracts being 01/01/07.

Fiscal Impact/Change to Net County Cost:
If successful, these grants will provide funding up to $100,000 over a two year period for each Weed Management Group. There is no change to the Department’s net county cost.
