Fiscal Impact/Change to Net County Cost: There is no fiscal impact or net County cost.

Background: El Dorado County has supported a Children's Health Initiative since 2000. During that time, and in conjunction with First 5 of El Dorado, the County has also supported and participated in the creation of Healthy Kids Healthy Futures (HKHF), a regional, multi-county initiative, promoting children's health by ensuring access to comprehensive, affordable, and continuous healthcare coverage for children ages 0-18 years of families who are unable to afford healthcare on their own or through other existing programs.

The California Children's Health Initiatives (CCHI) is a state wide effort with a vision that every child who lives in California will have access to affordable and quality healthcare through health insurance. Its mission is to create sustainable health care coverage for all children in California and maximize Federal and State participation in funding that health insurance.

Reason for Recommendation: HKHF believes strongly in this mission, and its associated counties are encouraged to become members of CCHI. Through this membership, HKHF will have a more powerful voice on the issue of children's healthcare coverage, bringing it to the forefront of state-wide policy making. However, each member county of HKHF needs to acknowledge support for the attached CCHI guidelines in order for them to become a member.
