Fiscal Impact/Change to Net County Cost: There is no cost to the General Fund and no matching contribution is required for this grant. The estimated total grant dollar amount for FY 2007-08 is $90,000. If approved by the California Integrated Waste Management Board, the Department will bring back the appropriate budget adjustments.

Background: Household hazardous waste has become an issue in California. The California Environmental Protection Agency, California Integrated Waste Management Board will provide financial support for the Hazardous Waste Discretionary Grant for FY 2007-08 to assist in providing opportunities for the collection of household hazardous waste.

Reason for Recommendation: The purpose of this grant is to provide opportunities for the collection and disposal of household hazardous waste. This grant assists local governments with establishing or enhancing permanent, sustainable household hazardous waste programs.
