Environmental Management Department recommending Resolution authorizing the submittal of a grant application to the California Environmental Protection Agency, California Integrated Waste Management Board, for the Hazardous Waste Discretionary Grant for Fiscal Year 2007-2008 to assist local governments in establishing permanent, sustainable household hazardous waste programs; and Director of said Department be authorized to execute all necessary applications, contracts, payment requests, agreements and amendments thereto for the purpose of securing said funds.
RECOMMENDED ACTION: Adopt Resolution 110-2007.

Fiscal Impact/Change to Net County Cost: There is no cost to the General Fund and no matching contribution is required for this grant. The estimated total grant dollar amount for FY 2007-08 is $90,000. If approved by the California Integrated Waste Management Board, the Department will bring back the appropriate budget adjustments.
Background: Household hazardous waste has become an issue in California. The California Environmental Protection Agency, California Integrated Waste Management Board will provide financial support for the Hazardous Waste Discretionary Grant for FY 2007-08 to assist in providing opportunities for the collection of household hazardous waste.
Reason for Recommendation: The purpose of this grant is to provide opportunities for the collection and disposal of household hazardous waste. This grant assists local governments with establishing or enhancing permanent, sustainable household hazardous waste programs.
