Reason for Recommendation:

This office has filed the FY 2007/2008 grant application (due May 1) for continuation of funding for the Workers' Compensation Insurance Fraud program.

We have applied for new funding of $256,484, and expect to be approved for $175,000.  This request is an increase over the FY 2006/2007 approved grant of $49,944. The District Attorney has discussed with the Board his plans to create an Elder and Consumer Protection Unit.  The Board approved that concept and the unit has begun functioning but is not yet fully operational.  Workers's Compensation Insurance Fraud is a part of this unit.

The funding increase will promote an increased effort to prevent, investigate and prosecute worker's compensation insurance fraud in the county.

A copy of the grant application is attached to this item.
