Fiscal Impact/Change to Net County Cost: No matching contribution is required for this grant. The total grant dollar amount for Fiscal Year 2007/2008 is $7,000. If approved by the California Integrated Waste Management Board, the Department will bring back the appropriate budget adjustments.


Background: The purpose of this grant program is to provide opportunities for the collection of household hazardous waste. Many common products that we use in our daily lives contain potentially hazardous ingredients and require special care when disposed of. Chemicals in illegally or improperly disposed hazardous waste can be released into the environment and contaminate our air, water, and possibly the food we eat. This grant assists local governments with establishing or expanding household hazardous waste collection programs by providing grants awarded on a competitive basis.

Reason for Recommendation: If awarded, this grant funding will allow the Environmental Management Department the ability to continue providing household hazardous waste collection events and expand public awareness. Calaveras County has initiated the grant application...
