Background: The Placerville Area Education Consortium (PAEC) is a new partnership of area school districts, schools, government agencies and non-profits, joining together to support an application for a federal grant to promote a safe school environment; reduce the incidence of alcohol, tobacco and other drug use; promote childhood psychological and emotional development; increase academic achievement and parent involvement in schools; and sustain and enhance community collaboration. The lead agency will be El Dorado Union High School District.

Reason for Recommendation:The Sheriff’s Office, Probation, Human Services and Mental Health Departments request Board authorization to join in this consortium. If the grant is awarded, these same county agencies would work with local area educational institutions and area non-profits to cooperatively provide services under this program.

Action to be taken following Board approval:El Dorado County Sheriff and Directors of Probation, Human Services and Mental Health will sign a Preliminary Memoranda of Agreement. PAEC will submit the application for grant and other documentation as required by the application.
