Title
Agriculture, Weights and Measures Department, on behalf of the Alpine/Upper Carson Weed Management Group, recommending the Agricultural Commissioner be authorized to present a work plan to fund scheduled projects for the prevention, early detection, and eradication of noxious weed populations in Alpine County through the California Department of Food and Agriculture.
RECOMMENDED ACTION:  Approve.

FUNDING:  California Department of Food and Agriculture.

Body
Fiscal Impact/Change to Net County Cost:  If successful, the State would provide funding up to $40,000 to the Agriculture Department for work planned in the FY 2007-08 through FY 2009-10 budgets.

Background: The Agriculture Department currently manages all invasive weed work in Alpine county.  CDFA is requesting work plans from Weed Management Areas (WMAs) to implement and/or continue noxious weed control projects in California.  The available funding is intended to continue efforts for the prevention, early detection, and eradication of noxious weed populations.

Weed Management Groups consist of numerous public and private entities that are involved in intensive noxious weed population survey and eradication projects.  This funding is for already scheduled work to be completed in each of the budget years listed.  The term of the work plan extends into FY 2009-10.  The department will request funding for both years, with actual start date of the contract being 01/01/2008.

Action to be taken following Board approval:  Department to prepare and submit work plan, and all supporting documentation, to CDFA on behalf of the Alpine/Upper Carson Weed Management; Department to return to Board for approval, Budget Transfers and signature authority for Work Plan Agreements if awarded.
