Fiscal Impact/Change to Net County Cost:The total funding for this agreement is $70,250 for the nineteen month contract. There is no Change to Net County Cost.

Background: California Institute for Mental Health (CIMH) was established in 1993 by local mental health directors to provide training, technical assistance, research and policy development. CIMH works collaboratively with all mental health stakeholders to promote healthy communities and to reduce stigma and discrimination.

Reason for Recommendation:This agreement will allow the Mental Health Department to obtain training for clinicians in Functional Family Therapy (FFT), a family intervention which targets youth (12 to 17 years of age) who are at risk and/or presenting serious delinquency, violence and/or substance abuse issues. FFT has been rigorously evaluated and found to achieve positive outcomes, including: reduction in criminal activity, reduction in violent behavior, improved family interactions, and prevention of younger siblings entry into high risk behaviors.

This agreement will become effective upon execution and will expire March 31, 2009.

Action to be taken following Board approval:Board Clerk’s Office will forward the executed agreement to Mental Health for further processing.
