Chief Administrative Office recommending that the Board of Supervisors adopt the Final Response to the 2006-07 Grand Jury Final Report and authorize submittal to the Presiding Judge of the Superior Court.

Reason for Recommendation: On August 14, 2007 the Board of Supervisors adopted the Initial Draft Response to the 2006-07 Grand Jury Final Report. The Penal Code deadline for submittal to the Judge is September 28.

The Chief Administrative Office has made minor changes in the response to recommendations 1, 3, 4, 5, 21, 23, 26 and 27 in report GJ06-045 in order to identify timeframes for implementation per Penal Code section 933.05. The changes are summarized here:

Recommendation 1: General Services will schedule painting of the bridge between Building A and Building B by the end of the year.

Recommendation 3: Estimated replacement/repair of the Building A and Building B cooling tower is spring, 2008.

Recommendation 4: Carpet in the South Lake Tahoe El Dorado Center will be inspected and replaced as needed by the end of the year.

Recommendation 5: Inspection of stained bricks in the El Dorado Center will be completed by the end of the year.

Recommendation 21: Carpet replacement and potential ADA issues will be addressed within the fiscal year.

Recommendation 23: Development and posting of emergency evaculation signs will be completed by the end of the year.

Recommendation 26: Contractor to address potential ADA issues by spring, 2008.

Recommendation 27: Court parking lot safety will be addressed by the end of the year.

County Policy A-11, “Responding to Grand Jury Reports” requires the CAO to maintain copies of the response for public viewing, and to distribute copies to the Presiding Judge of the Superior Court, the current Grand Jury, all affected departments, and all branches of the county library.
