Body

Fiscal Impact/Change to Net County Cost: There is no fiscal impact or net County cost associated with this item.

Background: While the South Lake Tahoe Animal Control Facility is being remodeled, Animal Control is responsible for relocating and housing the animals for which it is responsible.  Since the remodeling began the SLT Animal Shelter has been housed in leased modulars sited near the former shelter. The time frame for completion of the project has been extended until December 2007. Unfortunately, the lease with the modular company is only until October 31, 2007 and they are unwilling to extend it due to snow load and transportation issues. To partially fill the animal housing needs, Public Health has made arrangements with Noah's Wish, an animal welfare organization dedicated to assisting animals in times of disaster, for the use of a trailer to provide temporary housing during the day for those animals. There is no charge for use of the trailer. A separate agreement is being developed with a local boarding facility to house any unclaimed animals during the evening. Noah's Wish requires the County to sign a liability waiver and contract for the use of their trailer.  Counsel and Risk Management have approved those documents and due to time constraints in getting the trailer up to SLT the Director has signed on behalf of the County.  The Department is recommending that the Board ratify that signature.

The trailer will be used from October 22, 2007 through December 31, 2007.  The agreement may be extended, if needed.
