Fiscal Impact/Change to Net County Cost: Funding for the remainder of FY 2007-08 is included in the FY 2007-08 Budget. Funds for the remainder of the term will be included in the proposed FY 2008-09 Budget.
Background: On September 20, 2005, the Board of Supervisors approved an Agreement with the Deputy Sheriff's Association to provide a 7% stipend for Deputy Sheriffs I/II and Sheriff Sergeants as a result of recruitment and retention issues considered by the Board. The stipend became effective September 17, 2005. Continuance of the stipend has been considered and approved by the Board on June 26, 2006 and January 9, 2007.
Reason for Recommendation: Market conditions impacting recruitment and retention of Deputy Sheriffs I/II and Sheriff Sergeants warrant continuance of the stipend for 2008.
Action to be taken following Board approval: Coordinate actions for continuance with Sheriff, Huamn Resources, and Auditor-Controller.
