El Dorado County Youth Commission submitting for adoption the revised Environmental Vision Resolution 29-2008. (Cont'd 2/26/08, Item 38)

The Board of Supervisors was provided an Environmental Vision resolution by the El Dorado County Youth Commission on Tuesday, February 12th, and again on Tuesday, February 26th.  This item was continued pending a follow up meeting with Supervisor Ron Briggs and Agricultural Commission/Sealer of Weights and Measures, Bill Stephans, and revisions to the resolution that would include a greater agriculture emphasis.  
 
The Youth Commission met with Supervisor Briggs and Commissioner Stephans and have made pursuant amendments as follows:
 
8. Agriculture and Working Landscapes
-Encourage and support the use of integrated pest management techniques to reduce environmental impacts.
-Encourage sustainable agricultural practices through the use of environmentally intelligent planning of development and growth that supports and protects viable working landscapes.
-Maintain biodiversity through the continued identification, control and eradication of invasive species.
 
At their March 11, 2008, commission meeting, the Youth Commission also formed a committee to discuss the inclusion of a statement acknowledging the economic impacts of this environmental vision, which includes the following addition to the original resolution:
 
Whereas, positive changes can include economic development opportunities for green industry, new business and corporate attraction, job training and development, expansion of "eco" and agri-tourism, to complement the emission reductions and cost savings benefits of implementing this environmental vision; and,
 
 
 
 
 
RECOMMENDATION:  Board approve the revised Environmental Vision Resolution for the County of El Dorado.
