Reason for Recommendation:
This item was approved by the Board on March 4, 2008, however, it failed to state that the effective date needed to be retroactive to January 1, 2008, since uniform allowances are only paid in January of each year.

The Sheriff's Department currently has an employee in the classification of Sheriff's Technician performing personnel type duties, such as conducting recruitments and associated required testing, as well as assisting with discipline letters. This classification title is typically under Local 1 and is entitled to a uniform allowance; however, because of the duties the employee performs, this position has been designated as Confidential. Confidential positions are included in the Salary and Benefits Resolution (Resolution) for Unrepresented Employees. Currently, there is no provision under Section 1409, Uniform - Sheriff's Management Classes, of the Resolution to provide a uniform allowance to an incumbent in this classification. The Sheriff requires incumbents in this classification to wear a uniform due to the nature of the duties performed. Consequently, an incumbent in the classification of Confidential Sheriff's Technician should be entitled to a uniform allowance equal to the allowance under the Local 1 MOU.
