Reason for Recommendation:
Annually the Federal Government declares the month of May "Older Americans Month" and the State proclaims May "Older Californians Month".  The 2008 theme is "Working Together for Strong, Healthy Supportive Communities".  The attached Proclamation designates May 2008 as Older Americans Month in El Dorado County to pay tribute to the rapidly increasing older population in local communities and throughout the world, encourage older Americans to maintain their independence by accessing those support services available to them, and further encourage all businesses, public and private, schools, groups and citizens to celebrate our nation's senior citizens.  A local celebration, sponsored by the El Dorado County Commission on Aging, is scheduled on May 21st at the El Dorado County Fairgrounds.

Action to be taken following Board approval:
Board Clerk to provide Human Services, Community Services Division at Spring Street, with Older Americans Month Proclamation signed by the Chairman.
