Library Director recommending ratification of submittal of an application to the California Council for the Humanities for a grant in the amount of $1,000 to participate in the "How I See It: My Place" library program at the South Lake Tahoe Library; Chairman be authorized to sign grant agreement, contingent upon review and approval by County Counsel and Risk Management; Library Director be authorized to sign reports and other documents as required by the grantor; and Chairman be authorized to sign Budget Transfer 28158 increasing estimated revenue and appropriations in the amount of $1,000 for same. (4/5 vote required)
RECOMMENDED ACTION: Approve.

Reason for Recommendation:
The California Council for the Humanities is sponsoring a library program that offers teens in California libraries an opportunity to explore the meaning of "place" through photography and writing and to share their work in public programs. The South Lake Tahoe Library plans to use this grant to work with teens, historians and photographers to develop a "My Space" program in the fall of 2008. Grant award also includes a two-day orientation meeting in Los Angeles for the South Lake Tahoe Librarian paid entirely with CCH funding. Total cost of the project is estimated at $3,860 with an in-kind match of $2,860 to be met with existing South Lake Tahoe Library program funding (staff and supplies).
Ratification of the grant application submittal is requested because the Department was notified of grant opportunity shortly before the application deadline and there was not sufficient time to agendize the item for Board approval.
