Environmental Management Department recommending adoption of Resolution 183-2008 authorizing the Director of said Department, or her designee, to submit the Used Oil Recycling Block Grant Application for Fiscal Year 2008/2009 to the State of California Environmental Protection Agency, California Integrated Waste Management Board, to join with designated jurisdictions in the implementation of a used oil collection program.

Background: The State of California Environmental Protection Agency, California Integrated Waste Management Board provides annual funding to local governments for used oil recycling programs.
Reason for Recommendation: The purpose of this grant is to provide opportunities for the recycling of used oil. This grant assists local governments with establishing or enhancing permanent, sustainable used oil and oil filter collection programs by providing non-competitive funds calculated by a population-based formula.
Action to be taken following Board approval: Upon execution by the Chair, the Board Clerk's Office will forward the resolution to Environmental Management for submittal with the grant application.
