Total Funding Available $6,000
Change To Net County Cost $0

Fiscal Impact/Change to Net County Cost: None. Funding is included in the FY 2008-09 budget for Animal Services South Lake Tahoe (409210).

Background: The County of Alpine has no Animal Services Division, and for some time has been receiving limited Animal Services from El Dorado County when needed. Alpine County entered into the first Agreement with El Dorado County to provide Animal Services in March 2004; and the term of the prior Agreement was July 1, 2005 through June 30, 2008. This current Agreement is slightly retroactive due to the lengthy processing required by the two government agencies.

Reason for Recommendation: This Agreement will allow El Dorado County Animal Services Division to continue to provide Alpine County with enforcement of County and State Animal Control Ordinances. This provides Alpine County residents access to animal shelter services, including impounds and holding of Alpine animals, through the County Animal Shelter maintained in the South Lake Tahoe area on Shakori Drive. Specific services include rabies quarantine investigations, cruelty/abuse investigations and impoundment of aggressive dogs actively running loose.
