Fiscal Impact/Change to Net County Cost: Funding is available from anticipated salary savings within the EMS budget.
Background: Dr. Brazzel has been employed by the Public Health Department since September 1, 2007, in a part-time Extra Help capacity to serve as the Medical Director of the EMSA. He was initially hired at a Step 3 of the Public Health Clinician - Board Certified, Extra Help job classification and since that time has not had a salary increase. He has established positive working relationships with our EMS partners and provides highly-competent physician oversight to the local EMS system as required by the Health and Safety Code. Dr. Brazzel has successfully carried out his responsibilities while working two days per week. The Department continues to require his essential services.
Reason for Recommendation: To retain Dr. Brazzel's professional services, the Department recommends moving him to the 4th step of the Public Health Clinician Board Certified pay schedule.
Action to be taken following Board approval:
