Background:  The Library received a $92,320 grant from First 5 El Dorado in FY 2007-08 to provide a series of library programs on the Western Slope that emphasized the importance of reading to young children.  This new contract is an expansion of that program to include South Lake Tahoe and Georgetown, and will provide $82,856 for staffing and $68,485 for books, supplies and other expenses to greatly enhance the library services provided to young children and their families.

Reason for Recommendation:  Additional services will be provided as library outreach to clinics, daycare centers, preschools and other locations that serve children 0 to 5 years old.  Some of the programs will be offered in Spanish.

Action to be taken following Board approval:
Chairman to sign budget transfer and contract documents.
Board Clerk to transmit budget transfer to Auditor for processing and contract documents to department to distribute as appropriate.
