Fiscal Impact/Change to Net County Cost: None. The Sheriff's FY2008/2009 operational budget has funding allocated for this purpose.

Background: The El Dorado County Sheriff's Office has the need to contract for Sexual Assault Response Team (SART) services for investigative purposes. The Sheriff currently contracts with Marshall Hospital on the west slope and Barton Memorial Hospital in the Tahoe basin.

Reason for Recommendation: On occasion, there is a need to send a victim of a sexual assault to a Placer County hospital because neither Marshall Hospital and/or Barton Memorial Hospital have the staffing available or the expertise on hand to perform these evidentiary examinations. It is imperative that the examination be completed as soon as possible so it is more feasible for the victim to be transported to Placer County than to wait for our local hospitals to provide the service.

Action to be taken following Board approval: The Chairman of the Board and the Clerk of the Board will sign the Memorandum of Understanding and Sheriff staff will return it to Placer County with a Notice to Proceed with services.
