Fiscal Impact/Change to Net County Cost:  None.  The Sheriff's FY2008/09 operating budget contains funding for these services.

Background: The Sheriff's Office periodically needs to have pediatric evidentiary examinations conducted as part of a criminal investigation.  Neither of the hospitals located in El Dorado County has the equipment nor the court-certified expertise to conduct these types of examinations, so the University of California at Davis Medical Center is used.

Reason for Recommendation:  The current contract expired on September 30, 2008 and both parties desire to extend it for an additional 12-month period through September 30, 2009.

The Sheriff's Department requested the extension and started the paperwork with UC Davis on June 24, 2008.  Due to a change in staffing at UC Davis the Sheiff's Deparment did not receive the completed amendment from UC Davis until September 8, 2008.  At that time it was routed through County Counsel and Risk Managment for review.  Following County review the amendment was sent back to UC Davis for signature and upon return placed on the agenda for Board approval.

Action to be taken following Board approval:
Board Chair will sign the agreement.
Board Clerk will return executed agreement to Sheriff's Department.
