Fiscal Impact/Change to Net County Cost: None. CaliforniaKids is funded by a combination of Tobacco Master Settlement Agreement funding allocated to Public Health prior to June 2005, as well as First 5 El Dorado Children and Families Commission grant funding.

Background: In March 2003, the Board of Supervisors approved the Health Alliance Strategic Planning Report, which included three Action Plan areas to improve access to health care services in El Dorado County. One major goal, stated in Action Area One, was to make available affordable access to health care for every child living in El Dorado County. In 2005, the County entered into an agreement with CaliforniaKids Healthcare Foundation to make available health insurance, dental, and vision coverage for uninsured children in the County as one means of addressing that goal. This current Agreement with CaliforniaKids allows the County to continue providing access to health insurance through this successful partnership.

Reason for Recommendation: The current contract allows for two one-year extensions, which can be exercised by agreement, in writing, by both parties.
