1) Acceptance of funding totaling $26,206 from the California State Library for staff, supplies and travel costs to implement the Digital Student project to provide library cards and instruction on digital resources for students in targeted grades in 24 public schools in the County;
2) Authorize the Chair to sign the Financial Claim and Grant Award Certification requesting grant funding.

DISCUSSION / BACKGROUND
The Digital Student project will target fourth grade students in twelve elementary schools, sixth grade students in six middle schools, and ninth grade students in six high schools. Library staff will develop and present curriculum emphasizing basic research skills using digital resources available at the Library, and will train students and school personnel on the use of the digital resources. Library cards will be issued to all students in the project.

ALTERNATIVES
If the Digital Student grant is not accepted, the Library will not implement the project.

CAO RECOMMENDATION
The Chief Administrative Office concurs with the recommendation.

FINANCIAL IMPACT
No change to Net County Cost. Grant funding in the amount of $26,206 will be added to the Library Department budget in the FY 2016-17 Budget Addenda process.
