DEPARTMENT RECOMMENDATION

Supervisor Frentzen recommending the Board allocate $106,000 to the Pioneer Fire Protection District.

DISCUSSION / BACKGROUND

On February 16, 2016 the Pioneer Fire Protection District (PFPD) requested $106,000 for FY 16-17 to allow them to continue the staffing of Station 31, without which they will have to terminate operations out of this station.

The staffing of this station provides a valuable resource to the county as a whole, not just Pioneer FPD.  The closure of this facility will adversely impact the residents of Grizzly Flats and the surrounding area by increasing emergency response times and exposing lives and property to increased risk.

Over the past 2 years, the department has significantly reduced operating costs and thoroughly explored the possibility of consolidation.  Consolidation or merging would result in decreased services as all other departments have higher operating costs.
