DEPARTMENT RECOMMENDATION

The Health and Human Services Agency (HHSA) recommending the Board authorize the Chair to sign a Proclamation to recognize and formally thank the Regents of the University of California, on behalf of its Los Angeles campus and its Integrated Substance Abuse Program, for their exemplary educational workshops.  Workshop attendees collectively remarked that the training was timely, relevant, and pragmatic.

 

DISCUSSION / BACKGROUND

HHSA’s Alcohol and Drug Programs are responsible for developing, administering, and implementing alcohol and drug addiction prevention, treatment, and recovery programs.  To facilitate these objectives, the Alcohol and Drug Programs hosted twelve (12) webinars and one in-person training for both Alcohol and Drug Program staff and community partners.  Developed and presented by University of California, Los Angeles (UCLA) Integrated Substance Abuse Program, the webinars included topics such as Addiction and Pharmacology of Addiction, Ethics and Confidentiality, Co-Occurring Substance Use and Mental Health Disorders, Motivational Interviewing, Relapse Prevention and Trauma-Informed Care.  At the conclusion of the webinars, participants remarked that they acquired new treatment intervention strategies, enhanced knowledge of Co-Occurring Substance Use and Mental Health Disorders and expanded understanding of the professional approaches of other disciplines in treating these disorders.

CLERK OF THE BOARD FOLLOW UP ACTIONS

1) Clerk of the Board to obtain signature of Chair on a Proclamation recognizing UCLA’s Integrated Substance Abuse Educational Programs.

2) Clerk of the Board to return fully executed Proclamation to the HHSA Contracts Unit at 3057 Briw Road.
