Body

DEPARTMENT RECOMMENDATION

Health and Human Services Agency (HHSA) recommending the Board accept this generous bestowal of Mr. Ronald Newman, for the benefit of the County’s senior services programs.

DISCUSSION / BACKGROUND

On June 14, 2016, the Board accepted a $160,000 gift of funds from the Ronald Newman Trust, of which $140,000 was appropriated for special projects for future capital improvements in the County senior centers and $20,000 was appropriated as a contribution to the El Dorado County Foundation for the Senior Services Endowment Fund (File 16-0289, Item 16).

HHSA was recently notified by successor trustee, George Applebaum, Esquire, that all assets of the Trust have been liquidated, and after truing up the Trust, there is a balance remaining of $2,147.42.  Since there is a residual balance of funds after outstanding debts have been paid, HHSA is returning to the Board to request acceptance of the additional funds.  HHSA will recognize the additional funds at Addenda.

ALTERNATIVES

The Board could choose to not accept the additional funding, which would prevent the County’s senior services programs from realizing a benefit from this bequest.
