Sheriff's Office recommending that the Board authorize the addition of the following to the Sheriff’s Office fixed asset list:
1) A truck body for a Search and Rescue truck in the amount of $12,000 using savings from a fixed asset item previously approved but not purchased during Fiscal Year 2016/17; and
2) A snowmobile in the amount of $15,000 using savings from the Services and Supplies budget not spent during Fiscal Year 2016/17.

DEPARTMENT RECOMMENDATION:
The Sheriff’s Office recommends the addition of a truck body in the amount of $12,000 and a snowmobile in the amount of $15,000 to the Sheriff’s Office’s fixed asset list.
DISCUSSION / BACKGROUND:
The Sheriff’s Office’s Search and Rescue team (SAR) was approved to purchase an Equipment Cover in the amount of $25,000 in the FY 2016/17 budget. The SO is now requesting that a Truck Body be purchased for SAR in the amount of $12,000 instead of the equipment cover. Initially this equipment cover was requested to protect SAR equipment. However, it has been determined to be more important to purchase a new truck body for a SAR truck allowing it to be more serviceable.
The South Lake Tahoe SAR is in need of a new snowmobile as the previous one was destroyed during a search and rescue operation. The Sheriff’s Office is requesting to use savings from the approved Fiscal Year 2016/17 Services and Supplies budget to purchase a new snowmobile with an estimated cost of $15,000. The Sheriff’s Office will work with the Chief Administrator’s Office and complete a budget transfer for this purchase.
ALTERNATIVES:
Installing the Truck Body on the SAR vehicle will allow the storage of needed equipment on scene for future operations. Without the Truck Body , equipment may not be brought on scene and utilizing the equipment will not be as efficient. Without the snowmobile, the Sheriff’s Office would be unable to get to certain areas of the County for Search and Rescue operations.
OTHER DEPARTMENT / AGENCY INVOLVEMENT:
Procurement and Contracts will assist the Sheriff's Office with the purchases.
CAO RECOMMENDATION:
Approve as recommended.
FINANCIAL IMPACT:
There will be no impact to Net County Cost. Both of these items are being purchased with savings from items not purchased during Fiscal Year 2016/17.
