DEPARTMENT RECOMMENDATION:
Health and Human Services Agency (HHSA) recommending the Board of Supervisors accept this grant funding and authorize the subsequent purchase of an automatic external defibrillator (AED) in the Placerville Senior Center.

DISCUSSION / BACKGROUND:
The County of El Dorado’s Senior Center in Placerville has over 5,000 senior visitors annually and does not have an AED machine on site. The El Dorado Community Foundation - Friends of Seniors Fund, has offered to provide grant funding to cover the cost of purchasing an AED machine in the Placerville Senior Center located at 931 Spring Street. The AED is intended to reduce the risk of death for those who visit the Placerville Senior Center, which would include the seniors as well as employees, volunteers, and others who may frequent the Placerville Senior Center.

Many of HHSA’s Senior Services programs are funded in part with General Fund. Therefore, HHSA continues to seek alternative funding sources, such as this grant funding, to assist with meeting specific needs or enhancements within the programs.

ALTERNATIVES:
Disapproval of this grant funding will result in a lack of available grant funding to purchase an AED for the Placerville Senior Center.
