DEPARTMENT RECOMMENDATION: 

Health and Human Services Agency (HHSA) recommending the Board approve and authorize the Chair to sign a Proclamation recognizing August 2017 as “Breastfeeding Awareness Month” in El Dorado County.

 

DISCUSSION / BACKGROUND:

The month of August has historically been named “Breastfeeding Awareness Month” both nationally and in the State of California.  This will be the first year the County of El Dorado Board of Supervisors has approved a Proclamation naming August as “Breastfeeding Awareness Month.”

 

All citizens, governmental agencies, public and private institutions, businesses, and hospitals in El Dorado County are encouraged to join online actions and conversations to build support for the policy and practice changes needed to build a “landscape of breastfeeding support.”

 

ALTERNATIVES:

The Board could decline to approve the Proclamation naming August as “Breastfeeding Awareness Month.”

It is recommended that the Board approve this item.
