DEPARTMENT RECOMMENDATION: 

Health and Human Services Agency (HHSA) recommending the Board adopt and authorize the Chair to sign a Proclamation to increase awareness and promote emergency preparedness planning by individuals, families, organizations, and businesses throughout El Dorado County.

 

DISCUSSION / BACKGROUND:

The National Preparedness Goal is “A secure and resilient nation with the capabilities required across the whole community to prevent, protect against, mitigate, respond to and recover from the threats and hazards that pose the greatest risk.” Preparedness for emergencies and natural disasters is a shared responsibility involving the whole community and is achieved through a continuous cycle of planning, organizing, training, equipping, exercising, evaluating, and taking corrective action.

 

ALTERNATIVES:

The Board of Supervisors may elect not to adopt this Proclamation.

CAO RECOMMENDATION:

It is recommended that the Board approve this item.

 

FINANCIAL IMPACT:

There is no Net County Cost or financial impact to the County associated with this Proclamation.

 

CLERK OF THE BOARD FOLLOW UP ACTIONS

1) Clerk of the Board to obtain signature of Chair on two (2) National Preparedness Month Proclamations.

2) Clerk of the Board to return one (1) fully executed original Proclamation to HHSA Contracts Unit at 3057 Briw Road, Suite B.

 

STRATEGIC PLAN COMPONENT:

Goal 4 - Healthy Communities - Promote community practices for a safe environment that supports positive physical and behavioral health and wellness among residents and visitors.

Objective 4.1.3: Review, revise and/or develop operational plans to natural, man-made and health-related emergencies to assist El Dorado County in emergency response and recovery.
