DISCUSSION / BACKGROUND
The Information Technologies (IT) Department has reviewed the above Board policies in support of the Good Governance Strategic Plan and is recommending changes. The last update to Policy A-8 Microfilming was adopted in 1987 and is no longer applicable due to changes in technology. Policy A-21 Intranet Information Policy was last updated in 2008 and has been superseded by Policy A-19 General Network Usage Policy, approved by your Board on July 18, 2017. Therefore, it is recommended that these two policies be repealed.
Policy A-13 Computer and Network Information Systems Policy was last revised in 2005. It has been updated to include IT governance for acquisition and maintenance of life cycle enterprise information systems. The policy also ensures that the IT Strategic Plan is governed by the County Strategic Plan.
Policy A-22 County Website Policy was adopted in 2008 and has never been revised. It has now been updated to include guidelines for the governance of website content including oversight by the County Communications Manager. The policy also includes the governance of new website domain name acquisitions as well as links to external websites.
These policies follow industry-wide IT best practices.
