Agriculture Department recommending adoption of Resolution 294-2008 authorizing said Department to submit grant applications for various local, State and Federal Agriculture and Weights & Measures funding programs, and other grant funding opportunities that become available; and authorizing the Agricultural Commissioner, Sealer of Weights & Measures, or Chief Administrative Officer, to sign all necessary documents required to submit grant applications.

Fiscal Impact/Change to Net County Cost: There is no fiscal impact or change to net County cost arising from this item.
Recommended Actions:
1. Authorize the Agriculture Department to submit grant applications for various local, State and Federal agriculture and weights & measures funding programs, and other grant funding opportunities that become available;and
2. Authorize the Agricultural Commissioner, Sealer of Weights & Measures, or Chief Administrative Officer, to sign all necessary documents required to submit grant applications;
Background: Over the past five fiscal years, the Agriculture, Weights & Measures Department has been actively applying and awarded the same types of grant funding each year which helps offset the department costs concerning mandated regulatory work.
Reason for Recommendation: This Resolution will streamline the grant application process and help to minimize missed funding opportunities due to grant submittal deadline notifications that are less than the lead time required for the Board of Supervisors Agenda Item submittal and approval process.
Action to be taken following Board approval:
1. The Board Chairman will sign the two copies of the resolution, and the Board Clerk will forward one signed Resolution to the Agriculture Department for further processing.
2. The Agriculture Department will continue to pursue grant opportunities for funding to support the Agriculture, Weights & Measures programs.
