Body

DEPARTMENT RECOMMENDATION

SO recommends the approval and signing of this MOU to provide reimbursable dispatch services to PPD.

DISCUSSION / BACKGROUND

Government Code 55632 allows local agencies to contract with any other local agency for police protection.  PPD requires assistance in providing dispatch services on an as needed basis at maximum, seven (7) days a week during the hours of 1900-0700 for a term of January 1, 2018 to July 31, 2018.  EDSO is willing and able to provide these services under the terms and conditions of this MOU.  It was identified by the Placerville Police Department that due to staffing shortages they had an urgent need to have coverage for Dispatch services for their officers seven (7) days a week during the hours of 1900-0700 where they may not have available staff.  The El Dorado County Sheriff's Office and the Placerville Police Department came up with a solution and have an agreement in place where the SO can provide services during the hours of need.  Due to the urgent need, once the a mutual agreement was established, services began on January 1, 2018.  El Dorado County Counsel has reviewed and approved the MOU.

ALTERNATIVES

Failure to approve this MOU would mean that dispatch services will not be provided to PPD which could result in the inability of PPD to receive and respond to critical and/or life threatening calls for service.
