Body

In answering our country's call to duty, a generation of our nation’s men and women fought heroically in defense of liberty and to protect the ideals we hold dear as Americans in service to their country during the Vietnam War.

On March 29, 1973, the last combat troops were ordered out of Vietnam, and while many troops remained behind before the fall of Saigon, March 29th holds great meaning for many Vietnam Veterans.

In 2017 Congress approved and President Donald Trump signed into law the “Vietnam War Veterans Recognition Act,” bipartisan legislation representing the first federal statute that recognizes the bravery and sacrifice of veterans who served during the Vietnam War and that permanently designates March 29th as National Vietnam War Veterans Day.

Supervisor Ranalli recommends the Board join William E. Schultz, County of El Dorado Veterans Affairs Director, to recognize, honor and thank our Vietnam Veterans and their families for their service and sacrifices during the Vietnam War.
