Body

DEPARTMENT RECOMMENDATION

The Sheriff’s Office (SO) recommends the Board approve adding two vehicles to the Sheriff's Office fixed asset list and authorizes the Chair to sign the budget transfer allowing for $105,000 of Supplemental Law Enforcement Services Funding to be utilized for the purchase of the needed equipment.

DISCUSSION / BACKGROUND

The SO Patrol Division is in need of a new Chevy Tahoe to make the Patrol fleet whole after the assignment of a Patrol vehicle to the Psychiatric Emergency Response Team - (PERT) Deputy.  The PERT Deputy allocation was added when the PERT grant funding was awarded.  When that deputy was assigned a new vehicle, the Patrol fleet was down one vehicle.  This purchase will make the Patrol fleet whole again.  This item would add the Chevy Tahoe to the fixed asset list and allow for a budget transfer to increase revenues and appropriations using Supplemental Law Enforcement Services Account special revenue funds to cover the cost of the purchase.

The SO Transportation Unit is in need of an ADA compliant van to transport inmates.  Currently, Transportation Deputies are physically carrying disabled inmates out of their wheel chair and placing them in a non-ADA compliant vehicle in order to transport them to Court, between Jails or to the hospital.  This item would add the van to the Sheriff's Office Fixed Asset list and allow for a budget transfer to increase revenues and appropriations using Supplemental Law Enforcement Services Account special revenue funds to cover the cost of the purchase.

ALTERNATIVES

Not approving the addition to the fixed asset list would result in the inability to purchase the new Chevy Tahoe for Patrol and the ADA compliant van for the Transportation Unit.
