Title
County Counsel recommending the Board identify a County site adjacent to the Placerville Jail facility as an economic opportunity for the construction of a new courthouse in El Dorado County in response to the State's recent request; and authorize and direct County staff to conduct negotiations with the State, through the Judicial Council, Administrative Office of the Courts, for the construction of a courthouse funded by Senate Bill 1407 on that site.

Body
Fiscal Impact/Change to Net County Cost:  No general fund impact

Reason for Recommendation:  The construction of a new courthouse in Placerville will benefit the community by consolidating existing court facilities in Placerville in one location and accommodating future growth and needs of the County for judicial services.  Senate Bill 1407, passed by the Legislature in October 2008 and signed into law by the Governor, provides up to $5 billion in funding for trial court facility construction throughout the State supported by increases in fees, penalties and assessments.   A new Placerville courthouse is one of 41 identified trial court capital-outlay projects in 34 counties to be funded by Senate Bill 1407.

Action to be taken following Board approval:  Negotiation of terms for the provision of County site for construction of the new courthouse funded by Senate Bill 1407.
