Fiscal Impact/Change to Net County Cost: None. The Sheriff's FY 2009/2010 proposed budget has identified this funding.

Background: Each year the County receives funds from the California Department of Boating and Waterways to patrol the County's rivers and lakes.  The funding received by the Sheriff pays for extra-help Deputy Sheriffs who patrol rivers and lakes in the unincorporated area of the County from May through September.  Funding is also provided for permanent staff who provide river and lake patrol service on a year-round basis and the supplies and equipment needed to run the boating program.  As a condition of participating in this program, the County must use boat property taxes to partially fund the program.  The Auditor, as part of the application process, estimated the FY 2009/2010 boat property taxes to be $161,864.

Reason for Recommendation: The State has approved the State Department of Boating and Waterway's request for funding for FY 2009/2010.  El Dorado County has been approved for $319,546 for the period covering 07/01/09 through 06/30/2010.

Action to be taken following Board approval:The executed contract and the certified copy of the minute order from the Board meeting will be returned to the State Department of Boating and Waterways.
