DISCUSSION / BACKGROUND

The Buildings A and B Renovation Project was approved by the Board for construction in March of 2016 and activities started in earnest soon thereafter.  Years of built-up deferred maintenance had placed many of the building systems into a critical state, structural deterioration was becoming a safety hazard and the buildings had little in the way of Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) requirements.

The project was completed on time and on budget.  The on-going benefits of this project include approximate utility usage reductions in regards to water (39%), propane (27%) and power usage (16%).  In addition to utility savings the space that formally housed the heating, cooling and mechanical equipment has been re-purposed for storage space for Veteran's, a conference room, office space and file storage.

The project goals were all met in regards to this renovation including:

- replacing "end-of-life" building systems

- minimizing interruptions to program operations

- safety for employees and the public

- improving water & energy efficiency

- ADA compliance
