Fiscal Impact/Change to Net County Cost: No change. Federal Workforce Investment Act funds for the Work Experience Program are budgeted for FY 08-09 and are included in the FY 09-10 County Budget Request.

Reason for Recommendation:
Human Services administers the Workforce Investment Act (WIA) programs on behalf of the County. The Work Experience Program component of WIA enables eligible youth to gain paid work experience to enhance job skills and improve their ability to achieve permanent employment. The U.S. Forest Services, Lake Tahoe Basin Management Unit, is conducting a summer youth program that will enable four eligible youth to achieve paid work experience during their summer vacation and learn to be good stewards of the environment. The Forest Services requires execution of FS Agreement 09-CS-11051900-030 to enable these youth to participate in their program. The Forest Service will employ the youth and pay them an hourly rate of $10.21 per hour, and the County will reimburse the Forest Service at the rate of $8.00 per hour plus $400 for work-related requirements, for a not-to-exceed total of $9360 during the seven week term.
