DISCUSSION / BACKGROUND
The Sheriff’s Office applied and was awarded a grant on October 1, 2019 in the amount of $18,000 by ABC. The grant agreement constituting acceptance of the funding was executed by the Sheriff's Office Chief Fiscal Officer. The Sheriff's Office did not receive the Grant Agreement until October 7, 2019. We were urged by the Alcoholic Beverage Control to send in the signed agreement quickly to secure funding. Due to when the Sheriff's Office received the grant agreement and when the grant agreement was required to be signed, a decision was made within the Sheriff's Office to sign the agreement before Board approval was received.

The goal in submitting the grant application was to receive funding for a program to reduce underage drinking and the resultant DUI driving injuries and fatalities, and/or property damages, reduce youth access to alcoholic beverages through the education of licensee, enforcement intervention and the impressions of omnipresence of law enforcement.

The funds expended for the GAP will cover the costs for: conducting minor decoy, shoulder tap operations, and inspections of ABC licensees; partnering with the cities of South Lake Tahoe and Placerville law enforcement to conduct safety patrol operations; educating ABC licensees about underage drinking and its c...
