Fiscal Impact/Change to Net County Cost: No matching contribution is required for this grant. The amount available for Fiscal Year 09/10 is unknown at this time. The past two grant cycles (Block Grant 13 and 14) provided $48,531 and $48,083, respectively. There is no change in Net County Cost.

Background: The State of California Environmental Protection Agency, California Integrated Waste Management Board provides annual funding to local governments for used oil recycling programs.

The Environmental Management Department has historically been successful in being awarded this grant as the lead jurisdiction on behalf of itself and the City of Placerville and the City of South Lake Tahoe. Past projects and initiatives have included the construction of oil and household hazardous waste facilities, the purchase of used oil collection tanks, the purchase and distribution of used oil collection containers, marina bilge oil spill kits and Rubicon Trail automotive fluid spill kits. Used oil outreach events and programs are also conducted under this grant, including staff time to respond to used oil spills and complaints of improper used oil handling or disposal.
