Supervisor Veerkamp recommending the Board consider a request to find it to be a community benefit to waive the Temporary Use Permit fees for the September 2020 Cops & Rodders event being coordinated by the CHP Foundation, a 501c3 non-profit corporation.
...Body
This will be the 6th Annual Cops & Rodders Show & Shine, Car Show and Fly-in event located on Boeing Ave in the Cameron Park Airport.
Prior to last year, the fees were minimal, $50 to $100, but last year they were told the fees would be approaching $1,000. It was with significant concern that their benefitting charitable organizations would be shorted some much needed funds, so they requested a fee waiver which was granted by the CAO for the 2019 event. Unfortunately, our Fee Waiver policy states that a charitable organization can only have fees waived for a specific event, one time. This is difficult language for organizations that hold events to raise funds for those in need in our community on an annual basis.
The beneficiaries of these funds change from year to year, for this year they anticipate 35% of the funds raised to go to the CHP Widows and Orphans Fund. The balance of the funds raised will go to local organizations. Past recipients have been El Dorado High School, Ponderosa High School, El Dorado Food Bank and Tahoe Coalition for the Homeless. Some of these organizations assist the event with parking, and the culinery classes assist with food preparation for example. The CHP Foundation's volunteer leadership works directly with the El Dorado Community Foundation to ascertain the identities of local organizations that are in the most immediate need of funds.
The 2018 event raised $18,000, distributed as follows:
$3,000 - seed money for the 2020 event
$1,150 - to Cameron Park Airport District
$500 to EDHS Interact Club
$500 to EDHS Culinary Arts Program
$500 to CHP Senior Volunteers, Area 245 (Placerville)
$5,000 to CAHP Widows and Orphans' Trust Fund (CA Highway Patrol)
$2,500 to Cente...
